What our clients think...

"Amy at Ruff Start Dog Training is knowledgeable, kind, and absolutely wonderful. She empowers you and teaches you how to help your furry baby by showing you how to read their physical cues as well as reward based training.

I cannot say enough about how lucky we are to have found her. Our German Shepherd/Corgi baby is happier and less destructive since she has been helping us with training him!"

FAQs

  • What will my dog be learning?
Our training is personalized to your dog's needs and your goals. Many basic obedience cues will also be taught as they are the replacement behaviors for problem behaviors. This will be discussed in your consultation and agreed upon ahead of time.
  • Do you use e-collars or prong collars?
I do not use aversive tools in my training regimen. I do, however use tools like, harnesses, long leashes, and rewards of many kinds to encourage wanted behavior. This CAN prolong training, but will create longer-lasting results that will not affect your dog psychologically.
  • Can I visit my dog during their stay?
For programs a week long, no, as they interfere with focus and cause emotional ups and downs. We will give a lot of updates, pictures, and videos for your enjoyment.
For stays 2 weeks or longer, we offer a training session half-way through the program and at pick up, where we discuss what we've been working on. We have you practice some of the techniques we've been learning so you feel confident in maintaining them.
  • What happens when my dog comes home?
You'll be taught the training techniques and be given a written plan to uphold and maintain the training done. I will come out 3-4 days after the dog returns home to address any questions or issues that may arise.
  • What if my dog is reactive or anxious?
Many reactive and anxious dogs thrive in my board and train because of the structured environment and one-on-one attention. If your dog has a history of bites or aggression, please reach out first so we can determine the best plan.
  •  Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, we offer buy-now-pay-later plans with Stripe and Klarna on our check out page.
  • Are vaccines required to attend class?
Yes- For everyone's safety, all dogs must be up to date on core vaccines. Puppies should have at least their first two rounds of DHPP (Distemper/parvo) and be current on Bordetella. Adult dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies. Proof of vaccinations is due at the first class.
